Some New Year’s resolutions are hard to keep but here are 4 that will help with your home, may save you some money, and make you feel good.
- Conserve Energy! Some easy ways to conserve energy are to turn the lights off in a room no one is in, same with the TV. Unplug gadgets that aren’t being used or are charged already.
- Safety Check! Being safe may not save you money but it most definitely is its own reward. Check the batteries in your smoke detector/carbon monoxide detectors. If you have a smoke alarm that is 10 years or older (5 or older for carbon monoxide detectors) you will want to replace them as soon as possible. As their life is coming to an end. Another important safety check is your lint trap. Make sure the lint trap and the dryer hose is free from debris.
- Deep Clean and Declutter! This is something that is to help make your year more enjoyable. To help with this resolution, make small goals. For example, vow to put away all your clothes at the end of the day (whether put in a closet, drawer, or laundry basket). Another easy one is to deal with your junk mail each day, and not let it pile up.
- Plan for the future of your home! The new year is a good time to decide what your home needs to be fixed or improved upon. You may not be able to do some of your list until another year, but just having a plan to get them done is a worthwhile achievement. Do you need landscaping redone? Maybe replace the worn furniture. These items can be as big as building an addition or as small as washing the curtains. Once you have a list of what you want done, you can prioritize what is most important. And if necessary start saving so you will be ready.
