DIY Hand Sanitizer – What's Up Clarksville

DIY Hand Sanitizer

You may have trouble getting some of these items, with everyone trying to get their hands on hand sanitizer (pre made or home made). If by chance you are lucky enough to find rubbing alcohol of 70% or more or have some in your home already, this DIY is for you.

Now, why do I say 70% or greater for alcohol? The CDC recommends hand sanitizer to have at least 60% alcohol to be an effective germ killer. Also, it is recommended to add hydrogen peroxide to kill additional germs that the rubbing alcohol may have missed.

Materials:

  • 2/3 cup and 12 tsps of 70% or greater rubbing alcohol (if you using 91% rubbing alcohol use 2/3 cup and 6tsps)
  • 6 tsps vegetable glycerin
  • 6 tsps aloe vera gel
  • up to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (if you want to add a scent)
  • 1/2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide
  • Bowl
  • Container for sanitizer
  • Funnel (optional)
  1. find a container to store your sanitizer in. An old hand sanitizer bottle or little travel bottles work great. Put aside.
  2. Mix the ingredients into a bowl in the order as written above.
  3. Funnel mixture into your bottles (less messy than just pouring in).
